Betty White ACTOR

Betty White was born on January 17th, 1922 on Oak Park, Illinois with the middle name Marion to parents Horace and Tess White.  At the young age of two her family relocated to Los Angeles, California.  She attended Horace Mann School and completed High School at Beverly Hills High.  Her initial career intentions were to pursue a career as a writer.  When she wrote a play for school and performed in it she realized her interest for acting.
Only three months after graduating from High School, she was easily able to enter into the acting industry and went straight to working on television in 1939.  Her first gig was with fellow classmates singing on a local Los Angeles channel and soon after she began working as a model which followed with a theater role at the bliss Hayden Little Theatre.
After World war II broke out she had to stop acting briefly to  join the American Women's Voluntary Services but as soon as she completed her service she went right back to working.  She found employment in such radio shows as, "Blondie", "The Great Gildersleeve" and "This is Your FBI" followed by the opportunity to have her own radio show called, "The Betty White Show".
Her career was on the right track with her next job working on television with Al Jarvis on, his live variety show on Hollywood Television KLAC which in 1952 after he left the show, White took over as host.  She became co producer on this show from 1953-1955 and even earned her first Emmy Award for, "Life With Elizabeth".
In 1954, White was offered another opportunity to host her own daily talk show called, "The Betty White Show" and did a couple commercials before her feature film debut in 1962 on, "Advise and Consent".
It was her guest appearance on, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in 1973 that earned her one of her most well known and significant roles on the same show as a full time cast member.  She ended up winning two more Emmy Awards for her role in the series.
White also made a number of appearances on television movies such as, "With This Ring" and "The Gossip Columnist".  She continued to work on a number of television series such as, "Mama's Family" (1983-1985) and then her most famous role as Rose on the, "Golden Girls" (1985-1992) where she won yet another Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.  She was also the only cast member to be nominated for the same honor every year the show aired.
When the Golden Girls series ended, White kept working appearing on such shows as, "The 70's Show", "Everwood", "Malcolm in the Middle", "Suddenly Susan" earning another Emmy nomination and "Yes Dear" with another Emmy nomination.
In 1996 White added to her resume another Emmy win for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series appearing as herself on, "The John Larroquette Show".  White has also done voice over work for such animated shows as, "King of the Hill" and "Family Guy".
Even well into the year 2000, White never slowed down in the entertainment industry.  She even took on a role on the soap opera, "The Bold and the Beautiful" and from 2005-2008 she took another full cast member role on ABC's, "Boston Legal".  Her film roles during this decade consist of roles on, "Hard Rain", "Dennis the Menace Strikes Again" and "Bringing Down the House".
As of 2010 White took another role on the television series called, "Hot in Cleveland" and in 2012 the film, "The Lorax" is scheduled for release.
Along with her extensive resume, she is also a published author with her latest book titled, "If You Ask Me And Of Course You Won't" (2011) and she also debuted her own clothing line in 2010.  She donates all proceeds to animal charities in which she supports.
Betty White has been married three times.  Her first husband was Frederick R. Barker whom she married on July 9th, 1945 and remained married through December 1945.  Her second marriage was to Lane Allan whom she wed on November 8th, 1947 and was also only married a short time divorcing in 1949.  Her third marriage was to Allen Ludden in 1963 and they stayed married until he passed away in 1981 from stomach cancer.
White is most well known for her two really famous television roles on "Mary Tyler Moore" (1970) and playing the character, Rose on, "The Golden Girls" (1985).  However, Betty White has been involved in the entertainment industry for many years and has an extensive resume to back up her experience.
Betty has also been a gust on a number of celebrity game shows such as, "The Hollywood Squares" (1965), "Match Game 73" (1973) and  "The (New) $25,000 Pyramid" (1973).
White is also very involved in her efforts on behalf of animals and is a sponsor for Animal Reform Movement and Friends of Animals.  She works with a number of organizations such as the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, The Morris Animal Foundation and Actors and Others for Animals.

She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to television.  White was also the recipient of the Pacific-Pioneer Broadcasters Golden Ike Award and The American Comedy Awards awarded her the Funniest Female in 1987.  In 1995 she was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame and in 2009, White received the Career Achievement Award from the Television Critics Association.  In 2010 she was even awarded from the Screen actors Guild a Life Time Achievement Award.  She continues to perform today and remains active in animal charities throughout the United States.
