BEN STILLER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Ben Stiller was born on November 30th, 1965 in New York City, New York with the birth name Benjamin Edward Stiller to parents, Jerry and Anne Meara. Both his parents worked as comedians and he was raised exposed to show business. From a young age he and his sister would do little plays at home and he would even shoot home movies. He went to the Cathedral School and then graduated from Calhoun School in New York in 1983.
After high school he was involved in local theater productions and enrolled at UCLA majoring in films, however, after only nine months, he dropped out and decided to pursue a career in acting and begin his search for representation. He first started as a stage actor performing in a production of, "The House of Blue Leaves", which won a Tony Award.
While he was working as a stage actor he also became involved in the film industry and was cast in the film, "The Color of Money" (1986). The short film was so well received that, Lorne Michaels bought it and aired it on "Saturday Night Live" which gave Stiller the opportunity to work on the television show for about a year in 1989.
He also did a number of other films early on in his career such as, "Empire of the Sun" (1987). Along with gaining acting experience he also directed a number of short and independent films such as, "Back to Brooklyn" for MTV which then gave him the chance to have his own show, "The Ben Stiller Show" (1992). The show however was not so successful and was soon cancelled. Then Fox gave him the chance for thirteen episodes to air again, "The Ben Stiller Show" and this was also cancelled but he did get an Emmy for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing in a Variety or Music Program".
Stiller continued doing a variety of guest appearance work and then was able to direct the film, "Reality Bites" (1994), which was not so successful. He then was given the chance to direct his first big budget film, "The Cable Guy" (1996) starring Jim Carrey.
As his career progressed he directed and or produced over fifty films such as, "Heavyweights", "There's Something About Mary", "Meet the Parents", "Zoolander", "Dodgeball", "Tropic Thunder" and "Greenberg". His films have grossed more then 2.1 billion throughout the United States and Canada.
Stiller also made appearances in many of the films he directed and had an un-credited role in, "Happy Gilmore" (1996). In 2004 he starred in six films, "Starsky & Hutch", "Envy", "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story", an un-credited cameo in "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy", "Along Came Polly" and "Meet the Fockers".
He is also known as the leader of the, 'Frat Pack' which refers to a group of actors that have appeared together on a number of films, Jack Black, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Paul Rudd and Steve Carell.
Ben Stiller has married only once in 2000 to Christine Taylor and they have two children and remain married today. Some of his latest film appearances have been on such features as, "Tower Heist" (2011) and soon to release, "Madagascar 3" (2012), "The Mountain" (2012) and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" (2013).
