BARNEY PHILLIPS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Barney Phillips was born on October 20th, 1913 in St. Louis, Missouri with the birth name Bernard Philip Ofner, born to Harry Nathan and Leona Ofner. After graduating from college he relocated to Los Angeles, California.
He began his career as an actor in the late 30's appearing on the film, "Black Aces" starring Buck Jones, Kay Linaker and Robert Frazer in 1937, and then took a break from acting to join the United States Army in 1941 and served during World War II.
Once he completed his military service, Phillips then began to return to pursuing his career as an actor and added such film credits as, "The Judge" (1949) starring Milburn Stone, Katherine DeMille and Paul Guilfoyle and "Eight Iron Men" (1952) also starring Bonar Colleano, Arthur Franz, Lee Marvin, Richard Kiley, Mary Castle, Dickie Moore and James Griffith.
Along with his film career he mostly focused on television appearing in, "I Married Joan", "Dragnet", "The Man Behind the Badge", "Telephone Time", "The Loretta Young Show", "The Jimmy Stewart Show", "Death Valley Days", "The Lone Wolf", "Treasury Men in Action", "I Love Lucy", "Crusader", "The Millionaire", "I Love Lucy", "Big Town", "Climax!", "Lux Video Theatre", "M Squad", "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", "The Public Defender", "Mike Hammer", "CHiPs", "Perry Mason", "One Day at a Time", "Fantasy Island", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "Maverick", "Checkmate", "77 Sunset Strip", "The Untouchables" and "12 O'Clock High" among many others.
Other significant film roles included, "A Blueprint for Murder" (1953) starring with Joseph Cotten, Jean Peters, Jack Kruschen, Catherine McLeod and Gary Merrill, "The Square Jungle" (1955) starring Tony Curtis, Patricia Crowley, Ernest Borgnine, Jim Backus, John Marley, Joe Louis and David Janssen, "Behind the High Wall" (1956) starring Tom Tully, Sylvia Sidney, Betty Lynn, John Gavin and Don Beddoe, "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957) starring Michael Landon, Malcolm Atterbury, Guy Williams and Whit Bissell, "Gang War" (1958) starring Charles Bronson, Kent Taylor and Jennifer Holden, "Della" (1964) starring Charles Bickford, Diane Baker, Joan Crawford and Paul Burke, "The Sand Pebbles" (1966) starring Steve McQueen, Richard Crenna, Richard Attenborough, Richard Loo, Simon Oakland, Gus Trikonis, Gavin MacLeod, Ford Rainey and Candice Bergen and his final appearance in 1982 in the film, "O'Hara's Wife" with Edward Asner, Mariette Hartley and Jodie Foster.
He married only once to Marie Z. Davis and they remained together until he passed away on August 17th, 1982 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from cancer.
