BARBARA EDEN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Barbara Eden was born on August 23rd 1934 in Tucson, Arizona with the birth name Barbara Jean Moorhead. Her parents divorced when she was three and her mother moved the family to San Francisco, California and later remarried. During High School at Abraham Lincoln in San Francisco, California she was part of the cheerleading squad and was also involved in singing.
As a child she would sing in the church choir and by the age of fourteen she was singing in local bands making some extra money to help the family financially. When she was sixteen she joined the Actors Equity and studied singing at the Conservatory of Music in San Francisco.
She graduated from high school in 1949 and enrolled in college at the City College of Theatre in San Francisco. In 1951, she won the title of Miss San Francisco. She soon moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a career as an actress.
Barbara began with making appearances on such television shows as, "The Johnny Carson Show", "The West Point Story", "Highway Patrol", "Burke's Law", "Private Secretary", "I Love Lucy", "The Millionaire", "Father Knows Best", "December Bride", "The Lineup", "The Virginian" and "The Rogues" amongst many others.
Eden also did a total of fifty two episodes on, "How To Marry A Millionaire" sharing the spotlight with Merry Anders, Lori Nelson and Lisa Gaye which was based on the 1953 film of the same name which starred Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall, and is most remembered for her role on, "I Dream of Jeanie" (1965) co-starring Larry Hagman, playing the Genie in the bottle. Barbara also did a number of film appearances such as, "Back From Eternity" (1957) starring alongside Robert Ryan, Rod Steiger, Anita Ekberg, Gene Barry, Harold J. Stone, Phyllis Kirk, Jesse White, Adele Mara, Beulah Bondi, Jon Provost, Keith Andes, Tristram Coffin and Fred Clark which was her film debut, "Harper Valley PTA" (1978) starring with Nanette Fabray and Ronny Cox, "A Private's Affair" (1959) starring Sal Mineo and Christine Carere and "Flaming Star" (1960) with Elvis Presley, Steve Forrest, Dolores del Rio, John McIntire, Ford Rainey, Richard Jaeckel and Karl Swenson.
Barbara Eden has married three times. Her first marriage was to actor Michael Ansara from 1958 through 1974. The couple and one child together, Matthew, before she then married, Charles Donald Fegert from 1977 through 1983. Her third marriage was to Jon Eicholtz whom she is still married to today. She lost her only son at the age of thirty five to a drug overdose.
Eden was inducted into the California Broadcasting Hall of Fame in a special ceremony July 18, 2003 and was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her latest project was releasing a memoir called, "Jeannie Out of the Bottle" which discusses Eden's public and private tragedies that came along with Hollywood fame. The book was just released April 5th, 2011.
