ANTONIO BANDERAS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Antonio Banderas was born on August 10th, 1960 in Málaga, Andalucía, Spain with the birth name José Antonio Domínguez Banderas born to parents, Ana Banderas and José Domínguez Prieto. Originally, he had dreams of playing professional football, however at the age of fourteen, he broke his foot and came to the realization that this dream was no longer a reality.
Banderas then decided to take some drama classes which sparked his interest in a career in entertainment, He then decided to join a traveling theatre troupe and began touring throughout Spain, which soon lead to job with the National Theatre of Spain at the age of nineteen.
During one of his performances he caught the eye of a film director by the name of, Pedro Almodóvar, who chose to cast Banderas in the film, "Labyrinth of Passion" (1982). Soon the two men worked together on a number of films and pushed the limits in the industry, making headlines in Media in Spain when he portrayed a gat man and had an onscreen kiss in the film, "Law of Desire" (1987). It did not take long for him to catch the attention of Hollywood from his role in the film, "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" (1988).
After moving to the United States, Banderas worked with Madonna in the film, "Truth or Dare" (1991), followed by such film roles as, "The Mambo Kings" (1992), "Philadelphia" (1993), "Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles" (1994), "Evita" (1996) and then in 1998 in the film, "The Mask of Zorro", for which he gained a huge amount of media attention. He returned to this same role in 2005 in the film, "The Legend of Zorro" .
As his career progressed he continued to work in films but also was given a chance at directing with his directorial debut for the film, "Crazy in Alabama" (1999). Other film roles that followed were, "Frida" (2002) and he also did voice over work for the character, Puss in Boots in the "Shrek" films.
Antonio was now an international heartthrob, adored by fans nationwide. People Magazine even voted him one of the, "50 Most Beautiful People in the World". Throughout his career thus far, Banderas has been awarded three ALMA Awards and three Golden Globe nominations. In May 2010, Banderas received his honorary doctorate from the University of Málaga in the city where he was born.
He has married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Ana Leza from 1987 through 1996. He is currently married to actress, Melanie Griffith from 1996 and they have one child together and reside in both the United States as well as owning a home in Spain.
Banderas also works in the perfume industry with the fragrance company, Puig and promotes such fragrances as, Diavalo, Diavalo for Woman, Meditteraneo, Spirit, Spirit for Woman and also owns 50% of a winery in Villalbra de Duero, in Burgos Spain.
