Anita Ekberg ACTOR

Anita Ekberg was born on September 29th, 1931 in, Malmö, Skåne län, Sweden with the birth name Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg.  She was born into a large family with seven siblings total and grew up in Sweden.  In 1950, she entered the Miss Sweden contest and won the title.  She did not go on to win Miss Universe, but she did earn herself a modeling contract in the United States which soon followed with a film contract.
Her film contract was with RKO Pictures but it did not really do that much for her career.  She began working with Universal Pictures on a number of films, being cast in quite small roles.  She was given training in drama, elocution, dancing, horse-riding and fencing which the studio hoped would help make her more valuable to the film industry.  She was not getting cast in decent films and mostly her roles were only given to her based on her physical appearance such as, "Hollywood or Bust" (1956) starring Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Max 'Slapsie Maxie' Rosenbloom and Pat Crowley, "Artists and Models" (1955) starring Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Dorothy Malone, Eva Gabor and Shirley MacLaine, "Abbott and Costello Go to Mars" (1953) starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Mari Blanchard, Jack Kruschen, Martha Hyer, Joe Kirk and Horace McMahon and a small part in "Blood Alley" (1955) starring John Wayne, Lauren Bacall, Paul Fix and Mike Mazurki.
She then relocated to Rome to work on films there such as the film "War and Peace" (1956) starring Audrey Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Mel Ferrer, Vittorio Gassman and Herbert Lom and "La Dolce Vita" (1960) with Marcello Mastroianni, which seemed to be her biggest break through role.  She followed with about twenty more films in Italy and for the most part her roles continued to be mainly based on her appearance such as, "Fangs of the Living Dead" (1969) with Gianni Medici and Diana Lorys, "I Clowns" (1972) and "Intervista" (1987) which turned out to be one comeback role.

Anita even did a few television shows such as "The Bob Hope Show" and "Private Secretary" starring Ann Sothern and Don Porter.
Anita Ekberg married twice, first to Anthony Steel in 1956 and they were together until 1959.  Her second marriage was to Rik Van Nutter from 1963 through 1975.  She never had any children with either of her husbands but has said during a public interview that she regrets never having children of her own.
She was chosen by Empire Magazine as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history.  She has not moved back to Sweden since the late 1950's and she continues to live in Rome and has made an occasional radio appearances.
