ANGELINA JOLIE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Angelina Jolie was born on June 4th, 1975 in Los Angeles, California with the birth name Angelina Jolie Voight. Her father was Jon Voight, was an Academy Award winning actor and she was brought up in New York and Hollywood and very much exposed to the entertainment industry from a very young age. Her mother, Marcheline Mertrand was also an actress and did her formal training with Lee Strasberg. When her parents divorced in 1976, her mother abandoned her acting dreams and put her focus towards raising her children.
By the age of eleven she was also studying the craft with Lee Strasberg at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. After high school she relocated to New York briefly to study at New York University and then went back to Los Angeles and joined the Met Theatre Group. By the time she was sixteen years old she was working as a model and appearing in a number of music videos.
Her brother, James Haven was working as a director and he had his sister cast in a number of student films at USC School of Cinema. Jolie was working as a paid model in Los Angeles, New York and even traveled to London for work. She made her screen debut with her father by her side in 1982 in the film, "Lookin' to Get Out".
She continued appearing in films on television and the big screen in the mid 1990's with roles on "Hackers" (1995), "Foxfire" (1996), "True Women" (1997) and "George Wallace" (1997) for which she won a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination. After being cast as the lead in the made for television movie, "Gia" (1998) her popularity increased as she was awarded another Golden Globe and another Emmy nomination.
As her career progressed she was seen on the big screen in such feature films as, "The Bone Collector" (1999), "Girl, Interrupted" (1999), "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) and "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" (2001) which she had to undergo a significant amount of physical training for the role.
Angelina Jolie's professional career was at an all time high and her personal life kept her in the tabloids. With two failed marriages, first to a British Actor, Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 through 1999 and then to Billy Bob Thornton, another actor whom she had only dated for two month. They were married from 2000 through 2003. Her personal life was not looking as successful.
However, on the set of, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005) she worked with fellow actor, Brad Pitt. The two ended up dating after Pitt left his wife, Jennifer Aniston. They now live together and have six children to raise, three adopted children, Pax, Maddox and Zahara and three biological children, Shiloh, and twins, Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie also became very famous in the media after she visited Cambodia during filming and was intrigued by the refugee camps and the beauty, culture and poverty of the country. She soon became appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the united nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She has vowed to devote a percentage of earnings from her career to assist in humanitarian efforts. She has been involved in establishing several charitable organizations such as the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation which is dedicated to community development and environmental conservation in Cambodia's northwestern province. Also, along with Pitt they founded the Jolie-Pitt Foundation which aids in humanitarian causes worldwide.
Some of her latest appearances have been in such films as, "The Good Shepherd" (2006) and also directed a starred in the documentary, "A Place in Time" (2007). She followed with roles in such films as, "Salt" (2010), "The Tourist" (2010) and soon to be released is her directorial feature film debut, "In the Land of Blood and Honey" (2011).
Angelina Jolie has been named by Forbes as the highest-paid actress in 2009 and again in 2011. She is one of the most well known celebrities around the world. She continues to work and take care of her children and remains a woman to be admired by her fans.
