ANDIE MACDOWELL BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Andie MacDowell was born on April 21st, 1958 in Gaffney, South Carolina with the birth name Rosalie Anderson MacDowell. Her parents were, Pauline Johnston and Marion St. Pierre MacDowell. At the age of six her parents marriage ended in divorce.
After high school she first enrolled in Winthrop College for two years and then left school and relocated to Columbia, South Carolina where she supported herself working in a clothing boutique as well as a restaurant.
Her goal was to save up as much money as she could so she could relocate to New York City and try to pursue a career in entertainment. On a vacation to Los Angeles, a scout with Wilhelmina Models took notice of her and it did not take long before she was signed with Elite Model Management and made the move to New York.
Some of her early modeling jobs were modeling for Vogue magazine as well as appearing in a number of advertisements for such products as, Yves Saint Laurent, Vassarette, Armani perfume, Sabeth-Row, Mink International, Bill Blass, Anne Klein and Calvin Klein.
While working as a model she also studied acting at the Actors Studio. Soon she was offered her first film role in 1984 in the film, "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes". Soon other roles followed such as, "St. Elmo's Fire" (1985), "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" (1989) for which she received a nomination for Best Actress, "Green Card" (1990), for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress and "The Object of Beauty" (1991).
Her level of stardom increased when she was cast in the film, "Groundhog Day" (1993) followed by another highly successful film role in, "Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1994).
Throughout her lifetime she has married twice. Her first husband was Paul Qualley whom she wed in 1986 and they and three children before this marriage came to an end in 1999. She then married Rhett DeCamp Hartzog in 2001 but this marriage also ended in 2004.
Andie has received a number of honors over the course of her career in entertainment such as being chosen by People's magazine as one of the, "50 Most Beautiful People in the world" in the year 2000.
Some of her latest appearances have been in such films as, "Tara Road" (2005), "Barnyard" (2006), "Intervention" (2007), "The Six Wives of Henry Lefay" (2009) and the television series, "Lone Star" (2010) which was cancelled shortly after airing due to low ratings. She also appeared in two films in 2011, "Monte Carlo" and "Footloose".
