ALLISON JANNEY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Allison Janney was born on November 19th, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio with the birth name Allison Brooks Janney, born to Macy Brooks, an actress and Jervis Spencer Janney Jr. Originally, she excelled as a figure skater and dreamed of going to the Olympics, however an injury caused her to rethink her career goals.
After high school, Janney enrolled at Kenyon College and it was during this time that she auditioned for a school stage production and was cast in her first stage play. During this play she was discovered by Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, who played a role in Janney pursuing a career as an actress.
Janney then went on to graduate with a degree in drama and decided to relocate to New York and further her education at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse. She also received some of her education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
Her career as an actress began with appearing on a couple television series such as, "Morton & Hayes" (1991), "Law & Order" (1992-1994) and "Guiding Light" between 1993 and 1995.
Along with beginning to make a name for herself in the television industry she began adding such film credits to her resume such as, "Drop Dead Gorgeous" (1999) starring Kirstie Alley, Ellen Barkin, Denise Richards, Brittany Murphy and Kirsten Dunst, "10 things I Hate About You" (1999) starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, "American Beauty" (1999) starring Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening, "Nurse Betty" (2000) starring Renee Zellweger, Morgan Freeman, Chris Rock, Greg Kinnear and Aaron Eckhart, "The Hours" (2002) starring Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Claire Danes, Jeff Daniels and Ed Harris and "How to Deal" (2003) starring Mandy Moore, Trent Ford, Alexandra Holden, Dylan Baker and Nina Foch.
She has continued to increase her level of popularity with her role on the television series, "West Wing" (1999) starring alongside Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Stockard Channing, Dule Hill, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford, Moira Kelly, Jimmy Smits, John Spencer, Joshua Molina, Alan Alda, Janel Moloney and Mary McCormack a role for which she has earned four Emmy's and two SAG Awards. Janney was also nominated for an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in the 2003 and 2006 Primetime Emmys and has also received four Golden Globe Award nominations for her role in the series.
In addition to film and television work, Janney continues to make stage appearances in such productions as, "A View From the Bridge", "Present Laughter", "9 to 5" and "the Taming of the Shrew".
She has also done voice over work for a number of commercials such as, Kaiser Permanente and in 2011 she provided the voice for Aly San San in the short, "Star Tours: The Adventures Continue".
Most recently, Janney has appeared on the television series, "The Big C" (2012) and soon to release a quite a number of films such as, "Light Years" (2012), "The Way, Way Back" (2013), "Touchy Feely" (2013), "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" (2013) and "Lucky Them" which is currently still in pre-production.
