In the early part of his career he was a member of the Gene Autry's cast of players and would appear in numerous Autry films and later even on the Gene Autry Show.  He also became very well known for his portrayal of the Skipper on the television show, "Gilligan's Island" which aired from 1964 through 1967 and co-starred Bob Denver, Russell Johnson, Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise and Dawn Wells and evolving into a movie "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" (1978).

However successful he was in the film industry he was three times as successful working as a television actor.  He appeared in over 100 television series, some of which included, "Gilligan's Island", "Biff Baker, U.S.A.", "The Lucy Show", "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", "Casey Jones", "Northwest Passage", "Fury", "G.E. Not only did he have a successful career as an actor, he was also the co-owner of a restaurant in Encino, California called, Alan Hale's Lobster Barrel.  Once he closed down the restaurant he then opened a successful travel agency.

Alan Hale Jr. married only once to Naomi Hale is 1964 and they remained together until he passed away on January 2nd, 1990 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from cancer.  His remains were cremated and scattered in the ocean.
