ADELE MARA BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Adele Mara was born on April 28th, 1923 in Highland Park, Michigan with the birth name Adelaide Delgado. By the age of fifteen she was already working as a singer and dancer with Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra in Detroit. When she was on a trip to New York city, she was discovered by a talent scout with Columbia Pictures and was signed to a contract in 1942.
She began her experience working as a film actress on a number of 'B' rated films such as, "Alias Boston Blackie" and "Vengeance of the West" (both 1942). As she began to mature, she left her contract with Columbia and was signed to a contract with Republic Studio. They completely changed her look and her image turning her brown hair into platinum died blonde and casting her in such cowboy western films as, "Bells of Rosarita" (1945) and Twilight on the Rio Grande" (1947).
As her career progressed she continued to work on a variety of films such as, "Blackmail" (1947), "Web of Danger" (1947), "The Avengers" (1950) and "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949) starring John Wayne. Even though she appeared in a number of films she was often not given the opportunity to show of her acting talent and was instead mostly cast due to her physical appearance.
As she entered into the 1950's, roles began to dwindle down and her final screen appearance was in the film, "The Big Circus" (1959). Adele did not completely retire from acting and instead moved her focus away from film and into television making a number of appearances on such shows as, "Maverick" (1957) and "77 Sunset Strip" (1958).
She married only once to Roy Huggins in 1952 who was a producer of many television series. The couple had three children total, John, Thomas and James, and remained together until April 3rd, 2002 when he passed away. Eight years later on May 7th, 2010 she passed away from natural causes.
